Professional Biography

STEPHANIE CITRON is an award-winning freelance writer who resides in Longboat Key, Florida and Maryland.  She writes about travel, indigenous environments, living sustainably and contemporary culture. Her work appears in national and regional media, in print, and online.

Prior to her freelance career, she held the following positions:

Founding Editor and Contributing Writer of the Travel and Education Channels on the launch team of www.mom.com, one of the web’s earliest parenting lifestyle sites.  She was also the first mom on staff.

Director Of Advertising for American Style & Niche magazines; national consumer & trade magazines in the American contemporary fine arts industry.  She directed the advertising & marketing efforts throughout the launch of American Style, managing a sales force of 4 internal and 3 outside representatives.

Director of Corporate Communications for Metro Feeds, Inc. and Animal Authority superStores. Performed all communications, public and media relations, marketing and advertising functions for the company.  She was instrumental in growing the business nationally by developing a national catalog and involving their proprietary and exclusive brands in interactive marketing.  Several Metro Feeds clients employed Stephanie on a freelance basis to create sales and marketing literature.

Director of Corporate Communications for The Baltimore Design Center and Papier Interiors, where she orchestrated and performed public/media relations, corporate communications, marketing, advertising and sales development for the Center, its resident designer staff and the on-premise affiliated businesses. She wrote many original feature articles about the Baltimore Design Center and its designers, which appeared in the regional media, and created many advertorial pieces to market products and services.

Stephanie began her career in New York City, where she worked on the launches of several national magazines, including SPIN Magazine and Fast Lane Magazine. She was also on the advertising sales staff of The Saturday Evening Post.

Stephanie’s first job was as a Media Planner for a top 100 advertising agency in New York City, specializing in package goods.

Along with her professional endeavors, she has served on the boards of various foundations and nonprofits, including Institute of Islamic, Christian, & Jewish Studies, and The Parent Network of Greater Baltimore, for whom she wrote the blog and Twitter sites, and created a signature annual fundraising event for Planned Parenthood of Maryland called Celebrate Our Right To Shoes.

Stephanie is a 1982 graduate of University of Maryland, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism, and a minor degree in Marketing.  She is married with two adult children.
